Intro Class
Upcoming Intro Classes will be held on:
- Tuesday, November 4th, 2008 from 6:15-7:15 pm.
- Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008 from 6:15-7:15 pm.
Interested in aikido? The Intro Class gives a basic overview. Includes a warm-up, practice in ukemi (learning how to fall safely),
and partner practice.
New students will have an opportunity to ask questions about
aikido and to speak with experienced students.
Come a few minutes early to get registered. The Intro Class is free of charge, and will give you an idea
of what regular practice is like. Please bring a t-shirt and loose-fitting pants.
Please note: participants must be age 14 and above. A parent or guardian must accompany those under 18 and sign a release form.

Saturday, September 6th - Beginning Aikido: an Introductory Workshop
Beginning Aikido is a workshop offered on Saturday,
September 6th, 2008 from 2:00 - 5:00 pm.
This FREE workshop will be taught jointly by senior students of Aikido Shugyo Dojo.
It is for new members (in their first six months) at Aikido Shugyo Dojo,
and others who have no experience in Aikido, but are interested in trying.
This workshop offers a comfortable atmosphere in which to try new things and to ask questions.
Please bring a t-shirt and loose-fitting pants.

Elements in the workshop, Beginning Aikido, include:
- Ukemi—fear of falling, balance, power
- Timing—dynamic vs. static practice, waiting
- Contact—controls, locks, pins, contact exercises
- Centred Movement—weapons demonstration, selected techniques
- Breathing—ki and relaxation
- Demonstrations of weapons practice, dealing with multiple attackers and technique reversals

Mary Heiny Sensei studied Aikido in Japan in the 1960s and 70s, and, following her return to North America served as Chief Instructor of several dojos in the United States and Canada (including Ottawa Aikikai). Now she is an itinerant North American treasure of Aikido and is based in Seattle.
Mary Sensei's technique is dynamic, and her teaching works profoundly on body and mind.
Classes will be at the Aikido Shugyo Dojo, 276 Carlaw Ave.
